You know you're from Jersey when...

Laugh it up, fuzzball.

Following the train of gakkedness, Alyxyn referred to Tom's website and noted that a discussion had sprung up on The Straight Dope regarding Tom's list. I reproduce it here for your enjoyment:

You don't think of citrus when people mention "The Oranges".
You know that it's called Great Adventure, not Six Flags.
A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter.
You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven.
You've eaten at a Diner
You remember that the "Two Guys" were from Harrison.
You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.
At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen
You know what a "jug handle" is. (Not a fat roll on the body)
You know that WaWa is a convenience store.
You know that the state isn't all farmland.
You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey - there's "The Shore". And you don't go "to the shore" - you go "down the Shore". And when you are there, you're not "at the shore" - you are "down the shore".

And yes, every one of these I went "Yup."

Even those of us who aren't from Jersey know that the state isn't one big oil refinery or nothing but farms. A good chnk of the state is the Pine Barrens, which is inhabited by crazed, in-bred hillbillies and devils. ;)

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Maybe? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Nonononono! Growing up in Cape May, it was called the beach. We went to the beach. We didn't go to the shore because we were already there. ;)

And that Marty is a characters. :D

Oddly a couple of these I didn't match up with. I don't know the 'two guys' reference. But I was also going to add stuff like "We eat hoagies here, not subs." and we understand that there's actually a place referred to as 'central jersey', but only to those who live there, to differentiate it from Elizabeth in the north, and Camden in the south.

I always used Central Jersey to refer to the Princeton/Mercer County area. But I could see how non-natives might not realize that.

Mmmm, hoagies!

O K , fess up. Who in our family loves Bruce Springsteen? (don't count me!)
And what is a jug handle?
Cause I'm from Lawn Guy Land.

A jughandle is the 'right to turn left' thing that is so common on NJ roads. "All turns from right lane." "All turns".

See the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jughandle
