OLPC First Deployment

Life. Don't talk to me about life.

A blog post about the first OLPC deployment. Uruguay.

About a thousand machines were given out in three days. Another seven thousand will be given out in Uruguay in the next two weeks, and another 90 thousand in the coming months. Peru is next: they signed an order for 260 thousand today.

Awesome.

I think the self-meshing network stuff will be interesting. Given some of the limitations of TCP/IP, I wonder how well it will work.

Yeah, mesh networks are an interest of mine. I would like to see some good solutions to the problem of having to reassemble traffic at the entry point to the Internet. But with AT&T and Time Warner involved, it's going to be a tough political fight.
