Sometimes…

… the urge to just pack up all this weird technical junk and run off to a mountain top, find some old hermit willing to teach the deep dark secrets of fiddle playing, and disappear for 20 years… is mighty hard to resist.
(this “wanna run away” moment brought to you by the wonderful wailing fiddle of Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek. She’s 23, (was probably 21 when this particular track – ‘Smoothie Song’ – was recorded), and is an absolute master of the instrument.

  1. For me the urge is usually for the deep dark secrets of guitar playing, but I definitely know that feeling. Then again, I spent a year living on top of a mountain ridge in Maine, and it was one of the happiest years of my life.

  2. i do know just what you mean…. some musicians (and music) will do that to me as well, and this is why music is tantamount to a god for me. sara is waaaay up there (pun intended 😉 ). have i ever played (or lent) you the sam pacetti (guitar) disk? he was about 24 when he recorded it. i saw him live a year or two later, and his hands moved faster than i could watch them. amazing.

I haven’t heard of him, no. 🙁 My folk exposure is mostly coming from waht is leaking through in other channels, in particular Radio Paradise, where I heard Nickel Creek for the first time.
    Mmm, more music 🙂

Okay, so what was that like? And were you with an aged blind hermit who taught you the deep dark secrets of the fiddle? 🙂
